Lions roar against the Sharks

Emirates Airline Park - Saturday 17-Feb-2018

The Lions made it seven in a row against the Sharks at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday with a 26-19 victory in their first Super Rugby fixture of the season.

Four tries helped the home side secure a home victory and a very entertaining and physical match and the result was in the balance right until the end.

A brace by Springbok centre Lionel Mapoe and a try each by Aphiwe Dyantyi and Kwagga Smith kept the Lions’ noses in front for the last hour after a fine try by Shark flyhalf Robert du Preez.

The Sharks pressed hard at the end and two turnovers by Marnus Schoeman and Hacjivah Dayimani stopped their momentum.

The Lions laid the foundation of the first half momentum in the scrums and only the Sharks will know why they didn’t start Beast Mtawarira and Curwin Bosch in particular.
