The Xerox Golden Lions Under 21s scored a rare double at Emirates Airline Park when they scored their first victory over Western Province in nearly four years.
The Lion Cubs narrowly beat their WP counterparts 26-24 for their first victory over the Blue hoops since 2012 when Marais Schmidt kicked a penalty to beat Province 28-27.
Inside centre Shaun Reynolds were the star this time around, kicking 16 points which included four penalty goals, while the Brown Bomber, Ronald Brown scored a long-range try of 80 meters in the first half.
The Lions’ second try was scored by flanker MornEy Moos after clever interplay between flyhalf Siya Masuku and former SA Schools captain Barend Herbst. It was however, a brilliant team-effort particularly on defence against a slick Province backline.
The Lions nearly managed to score again right at the end when Godfrey Ramaboea broke away after a WP mistake inside their 25 and Masuku was stopped on the try-line.
