Well deserved allocades for Lions
The Golden Lions Rugby Union walked away with some coveted awards at the SA Rugby Player of the Year Awards dinner at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Monday evening with Johan Ackermann crowned as Coach of the Year, the Emirates Lions as Team of the Year and Elton Jantjies as Vodacom Super Rugby Player of Year.
Then Jacques Nel received the Supersport Try of the Year.
Ackermann becomes the first coach ever to win the Coach of the Year award three times in a row and we cannot be more proud of him.
“Thank you, it is an honour and privileged. It is not just my award but belong to everyone at Lions union, my management and players. Thanks to my family, and thanks to Jesus for his grace. Thank you,” Ackermann said.
Jantjies, flyhalf of the Emirates Lions, scored the third highest points in Super Rugby and played a major a role in his teams’ sterling performance this year.
Malcolm Marx walked away with the Young Player of Year Award after his meteoric rise to Springbok colours this year.
And last but not least the Emirates Lions, reaching the final of the Vodacom Super Rugby this year, was the top South African team while also being Conference Winners.
Thank you to all our supporters, we will be back in 2017.
