Johannesburg stadium

The multi-purpose Johannesburg Stadium is a highly versatile venue for a diverse range of public events. Typically, it is used as a training ground for Orlando Pirates Football Club and the Golden Lions Rugby Union.

Covering an area of 37 000m squared it was originally built as an athletics stadium, but can be used for events ranging from boxing, wrestling, exhibitions and sporting spectacles to banquets, arts and culture festivals, music concerts and other community events. It is also a perfect location for inter-school competitions and the like.

Glass-fronted hospitality suites and VIP lounges overlook the pitch area and are ideal venues for corporate entertainment and hospitality.

The stadium seats 36 000  people and/or can accommodate a further 10 000 - 15 000 on the floor area. Its unique design allows spectators to be close to all activities on the field and athletics track, while excellent site lines give superb viewing from all seats.

Safety and security

This is a major priority, particularly in regard to spectator proximity to the field and track. A wide external concourse facilitates spectator movement, while the internal moat which separates the pitch from the public supporters area ensures maximum safety.

The integrated information control system can monitor the entire stadium from the control point, providing excellent security for the spectators as well as the participants.

High tech

Another attractive feature of the stadium is its highly advanced technical equipment. The electronic scoreboard is one of the largest in South Africa, while the stadium lighting exceeds international standards set for television broadcasting. The latest electro-acoustic sound system covers all areas of the stadium and is decentralised which limits echoing.

Location

The Johannesburg Stadium is situated at 124 Van Beek Street, Doornfontein, in the Ellis Park World of Sports Precinct which is adjacent to Emirates Airline Park.
