The deal sees Bestmed journey with the union’s referees until November 2022
South Africa’s largest self-administered medical scheme Bestmed will partner with the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) referees in a bid to further support the work of match officials on the club and schools’ scene.
The deal will see Bestmed as the title sponsors of GLRU referees until November of this year.
With a proven track record of 57 years of providing medical care, Bestmed is embedded in the greater Johannesburg and Gauteng communities, highlighting the synergies between Johannesburg’s premier rugby team.
Madelein Barkhuizen, Bestmed’s Executive Manager of Sales and Marketing, believes getting behind the men and women who officiate the game makes sense for the healthcare brand.
“Refereeing serves as an ideal vehicle for brand visibility, and this partnership provides us further opportunities to entrench our influence in local communities where we can make a difference,” she concluded.
GLRU CEO, Rudolf Straeuli:
“Our referees and officials play an integral role in our sport, ensuring fair play at all times,” said Straeuli.
‘We are extremely exciting about this partnership with Bestmed. It allows our referees under GLRU to continue with their sterling work and grow from strength to strength.
“Development and transforming the sector is key for us and this is an ideal opportunity for us to enhance our referee programs on the local scene,” he concluded.
