The Emirates Lions left Cape Town victorious after securing a bonus point win against the DHL Stormers in Cape Town during Round 7 of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship. The final score read 19-37.

Leading 13-12 at the half-time break, through an opening try by Francke Horne, which was converted by Fred Zeilinga, the men from Johannesburg continued their dominance in the second half with three tries from Andre Warner, Man of the Match Vincent Tshituka and a second by Horn at two minutes before the final whistle.

Leading from the front, captain Burger Odendaal featured in multiple line breaks, placing his team in a favorable territorial position.

Said Odendaal: “I was really proud of how the guys remained calm throughout the 80 minutes which reaped rewards at the end of the day.

“I feel our set pieces provided a fantastic platform for us to launch our attack, but at the same time, hats off to the forwards for the hard work,” he concluded.

Head coach, Ivan van Rooyen praised his team’s belief and mind shift after a tough couple of weeks.

“Having not played for 7 weeks, I’m proud of how the guys showed up today. It speaks volumes of this team’s culture and character – on and off the field,” he concluded.
