A man of the match performance by Jurich Claasens with both the boot and general play ensured the Lions U20 played tactical rugby in key areas of the field.
Leading 19-9 at half time, the young team from Johannesburg weathered a second half onslaught from their opponents but kept composure to secure victory minutes before the full-time whistle.
“Extremely happy, very elated,” an excited Lions U20 coach Wessel Roux described.
“From a rugby perspective, we were fantastic in the first half, however in the second forty we made crucial errors at crucial moments. The boys stuck it through and showed immense character to clinch it at the end,” he explains.

Coach Mziwakhe Nkosi lauded the quality of leadership shown by his team on the field.
“We spoke about adversity and having good leaders in the team, and we came through it managed to get over the speed bumps. It’s rewarding for this group of players, and more importantly good for the Lions to have silverware in the cabinet.” concluded Nkosi.
