The Sigma Lions next host the Windhoek Draught Griquas on Good Friday at Emirates Airline Park.
The Sigma Lions came off second best against the Airlink Pumas at Mbombela stadium in the Carling Currie Cup on Wednesday.
The team from Johannesburg came out revitalized in the second half, after struggling to find their rhythm in the opening 40.
Hooker Jacques-Lois du Toit opened the teams’ account with a try from set piece play, following a period of pressure and consistency.
In the second half, exciting blind side flank, Sasko Ndlovu finished off an exciting passage of play conducted by the half back, Jurich Claasens in concert with replacement flyhalf, James Tedder.
Sigma Lions captain, Asenathi Ntlabakanye said that despite the result, it was a great opportunity for the Varsity Cup players who joined the squad this week.
“It was a fantastic experience for them today. It was a tough ask, but they’ll learn from this as the competition progresses,” he said.
“We can definitely take positives from our second half outing especially when it came to our set piece performance. With that said, it’s crucial for us to be on point from minute one to apply sustainable pressure,” Ntlabakanye concluded.
