It was with great sadness we heard of the passing of one of the Lions own ‐ a pillar of University and Club Rugby.

In paying tribute to Thando, the GLRU would like to acknowledge his immense contribution to Rugby in the Province as he tirelessly sought to level the playing fields and afford opportunities for young players over many years.

Golden Lions Rugby Union President, Mr. Neville Jardine paid tribute to the first president of the South African Rugby Football Union (SARFU) Ebrahim Patel.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union saw it fit to introduce two new rugby competitions namely the Memorial and Shield Cups in memory of those in the club rugby and overall rugby community who have experienced hardships.

This weekend the Mastercard Golden Lions Women’s team will host the Free State Cheetahs in the First Division Final at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday.

It is envisaged that the academy will sufficiently upskill, provide experience, and create development pathways, for players, coaches and administrators which will enable them to transition seamlessly to professional and international level.
